I absolutely love Christmas. I love the lights. I love the smell of pine. I love the presents—giving and receiving. I love the music. I love the food. I love the family time. I love just about everything there is about Christmas. But this should come as no surprise: What I love most is Jesus. Continue reading “Just Another Christmas Miracle”
A Passion from Cast Iron
Cooking with cast iron is something that has really intrigued me over the years. It may stem all the way back to my teen years as a Boy Scout. Continue reading “A Passion from Cast Iron”
The Hope of Christmas
As this post is made, many of you are either in the midst of hunting for some amazing Black Friday deals or are recovering from an all-night shopping spree. Thanksgiving is over and the march towards Christmas has officially begun. While it’s the most wonderful time of the year, this is also the busiest time of the year. In fact, a lot of us will wake up on January 1 and wonder where our holidays went. The busyness of this season makes it all too easy to miss out on the beauty and wonder of Christmas. Continue reading “The Hope of Christmas”
A Thanksgiving Sacrifice
On October 3rd, 1863, amidst the tragedy of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln penned these lasting words:
“In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict… Continue reading “A Thanksgiving Sacrifice”

A Recipe for Unity
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” John 1:14 NIV
It was a quiet and chilly night on December 29, 2003, when a few other guys and I, all complete strangers, sat anxiously in a gray van as it crept along a dark and windy road. The driver, a middle-aged man about 5’10 with a sunbaked tan, would periodically make stale jokes to lighten the mood. Continue reading “A Recipe for Unity”

Perhaps the most difficult doctrine that Christians have to contend with when talking to non-believers is the concept of Hell. We Christians claim that God is a God of love. So how does that idea square with God consciously tormenting people forever because they rejected him? Continue reading “How Could a Loving God Send People to Hell?”
Yoga, Thanksgiving, and Art
I was listening to a podcast of Ravi Zacharias, and he was asked if there was anything wrong with yoga or acupuncture. As he does so well, he answered yes and no. Continue reading “Yoga, Thanksgiving, and Art”
There Can’t Be Only One Way to God, Can There?
(This is the third in a weekly series called “Apologetics 101,” where we examine some of the key questions skeptics ask about the Christian faith.)
An old Buddhist parable describes several blind men who are touching an elephant and trying to figure out what it is. The first touches the tail and says it is a rope. The second touches the trunk and says it is a snake. The third touches the body and says it is a wall. The fourth touches the tusks and says it is a sword. Fathers Are Leaders
Seventeen years ago God blessed Julie and me with a beautiful baby girl whom we named Belinda and seven years later, another we named Sarah. Our oldest is a senior in high school this year, so along comes the year she’s been looking for along with all the stuff that goes with it. Senior dues, pictures, invitations, cap and gown, prom, seems like something new every week. Continue reading “Fathers Are Leaders”
