In Matthew 5, Jesus pulled away from the crowds that were following Him simply because they were curious or enamored with His miracles. He found a private spot on the mountain and sat down with His disciples to talk. And this is what He said… Continue reading “When I Grow Up”
Give This Christmas Away
My family is really excited about an opportunity we’ve been given this Christmas season. We will be a part of a drama team that accompanies our church choir in the upcoming musical, “The Story of Christmas: Worship The King.” Throughout the last few weeks of practice, one of the songs is on repeat in my head. Making Changes
You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. C.S. Lewis
In a few weeks, we’ll be facing the beginning of a new year, and there will be talk of New Year’s resolutions. The prospect of beginning anew is exciting. Making changes in our lives, however, even good ones, can be hard. Continue reading “Making Changes”
Perfectionist in Training
Years ago, I hired someone to work for me. This person was helping me out, but I ultimately thought I was the one helping because this person really needed work to provide for children, self, etc. I knew this person was not here legally, but I thought that helping with the needs of this family was more important than the legality. Little Eyes
A few Sundays ago, a little boy in our church sat with our family during the evening service. As the pastor began his message, I grabbed my notebook and began writing. He nudged me and whispered, “What are you doing?” I explained that I take notes during the sermon so that I can listen better and so that I can go back and remember each week’s sermon. A few minutes later, I looked over, and he was copying my notes on his own piece of paper that he had found in the back of the pew. Continue reading “Little Eyes”
The Hope of Christmas
As this post is made, many of you are either in the midst of hunting for some amazing Black Friday deals or are recovering from an all-night shopping spree. Thanksgiving is over and the march towards Christmas has officially begun. While it’s the most wonderful time of the year, this is also the busiest time of the year. In fact, a lot of us will wake up on January 1 and wonder where our holidays went. The busyness of this season makes it all too easy to miss out on the beauty and wonder of Christmas. A Thanksgiving Sacrifice
On October 3rd, 1863, amidst the tragedy of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln penned these lasting words:
“In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict… Continue reading “A Thanksgiving Sacrifice”
